Psalm 72 v 8-11
Let his kingdom go from sea to sea, and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth. Let the people of the desert bow down to him, and make his enemies lick the dust. Let the kings of Tarshish and the faraway lands bring him gifts. Let the kings of Sheba and Seba bring their presents to him. Let all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him.
To me, this passage emphasises the need for the new king and the hope that his kingdom will expand for ever and ever. I can imagine the kingdom pouring out over the land like an upturned bottle of milk covers the floor (in slow motion). I suppose it's like voting in a new Government nowadays - out with the old and in with the new! No matter which political party you vote for, the feeling is still the same - hoping that they will do a better job than the one before! New Year's Eve is the same - hopes and resolutions for the year ahead.
If you are anything like me, we all like to enjoy the times with friends and family. We like to look back on the past and forward to the future. This is what this passage means to me: fondly remembering the past, and looking forward with hope and anticipation to the future.
Dear Lord, Please let everyone accept Jesus as the one true king and learn to love him. He will bring goodness and wealth to many over the world - along with love and kindness. Amen
