Hope is... knowing Christ
These three remain: faith, hope and love - 1 Corinthians 13:13
My challenge in ministry
An 86 year old man who is new to our church, attended our Alpha course. He lost his wife about a year ago, and has struggled ever since. In the past year he has tried to contact his wife through spiritualists. The relationships he has built through Alpha have restored hope to his life. He responded to prayer for healing, felt the Holy Spirit move, and has had no pain since. Now he is full of Jesus and shares Him all over the place, praying for other people around the community. Through Jesus, this elderly man is full of hope.
A reflection for Lent
I have met many Christians who struggle with big issues in life - childlessness, lack of money for basic things in life, losing a child, divorce and depression. I have been struck time and again how people who face such issues manage to cope with these pressures. That's hope.
Another new couple in our church lost their son in a car accident a year ago. They have many dark days and they are left with the question of why? Yet they are filled with hope. They shared recently in a church service about that hope, and how Christ has given them a reason to live again.
Father God, we thank you that you have given us something in Christ of immeasurable worth. There is nothing like knowing you. In the midst of the pressure of life - give me hope. Give me this day an opportunity to give that hope away to someone in need. Amen.
