2 Corinthians 6:14-18
You are not the same as those who do not believe. So do not join yourselves to them. Good and bad do not belong together. Light and darkness cannot share together. How can Christ and Belial, the devil, have any agreement? What can a believer have together with a nonbeliever? The temple of God cannot have any agreement with idols, and we are the temple of the living God. As God said: "I will live with them and walk with them. And I will be their God, and they will be my people."
"Leave those people,
and be separate, says the Lord.
Touch nothing that is unclean,
and I will accept you." - [Isaiah 52:11; Ezekiel 20:34, 41]
"I will be your father,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty." - [2 Samuel 7:14]
Check it out in the mirror. Go on, what do you think when you see your body? Well look again. You are looking at the Temple of God. It is one of the awesome truths of the Gospel that the Holy Spirit lives within us. That makes us the temple of the Holy Spirit.
How should that affect the way we live and use our bodies?
Hopefully it gives us the courage to be different. For the simple fact is that you are not the same as those who do not believe. It does not make you better but it does make you different. Sometimes it is a whole lot more comfortable to be the same, to fit in. The Bible is not saying do not have anything to do with unbelievers. No. Jesus' example makes it clear that we should spend time with unbelievers. What the Bible states is that we must not compromise our faith. What can the temple of God have to do with idols? You might be given a hard time for believing or behaving differently amongst friends or family. You might get criticised for not going along with the crowd. Just remember that you are the temple of God and live in the light.
Find a mirror and give thanks that you are wonderfully made and even more wonderfully saved and that now you are a temple of the Holy Spirit.
Creator God
I stand amazed that you who created galaxies and forged worlds would come and live in me.
Keep me aware of your calling on my life and help me to live for you mind, body and spirit.
Amen
