2 Corinthians 7:1-4
Dear friends, we have these promises from God, so we should make ourselves pure - free from anything that makes body or soul unclean. We should try to become holy in the way we live, because we respect God.
Open your hearts to us. We have not done wrong to anyone, we have not ruined the faith of anyone, and we have not cheated anyone. I do not say this to blame you. I told you before that we love you so much we would live or die with you. I feel very sure of you and am very proud of you. You give me much comfort, and in all of our troubles I have great joy
Your body is a temple of God; this alone should stop us from abusing it. In the world today the pressure to take drugs and have promiscuous sex is very strong - God teaches we should refrain from these things as they destroy our body and our soul, he wants us to be 'pure' and free from these things.
God is proud of whoever we are, whatever we have done, as Paul explains in this extract. He forgives all the wrongs we have done and rejoices that we want to change and live a life for him.
When Jesus was on Earth he spent time with prostitutes and tax collectors, people who were commonly frowned upon by society, he gave them a chance and helped change them. No one has gone too far that they cannot be saved by God. Whatever you may have done all people are equal in God's eyes and he wants us all to repent.
Today you could choose to change your life for the better, live for God and from this day live a 'pure' life.
Dear Lord, thank you that you love us whoever we are and whatever we have done. Help us to live for you and keep our bodies pure as they are your temple. Forgive us for the wrong things we have done and help us to be holy in the way we live our lives. Help us not to judge others and respect ourselves. Amen
