John 18 v 25-27
As Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, they said to him, "Aren't you one of that man's followers?"
Peter said it was not true; he said, "No, I am not."
One of the servants of the high priest was there. This servant was a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off. The servant said, "Didn't I see you with him in the garden?"
Again Peter said it wasn't true. At once a rooster crowed.
Peter was scared of getting into trouble when he denied Jesus. He never thought he would. Jesus warned him but he didn't believe it and when the crunch came, his fear took over and his first thought was self preservation. Be careful of fears that could cause you to sin. Fear of rejection could lead to you being disrespectful to your parents or lying to fit in with the crowd. Peter's sin, unchecked could have cost him everything. Jesus says "If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels." Mark 8v38. Take a look at yourself and be honest, what fears do you have and why? Are they justified or irrational? Could these fears cause you to sin? Jesus wants to liberate us from all our fears and He can! He that is in you is greater than that which is in the world which means that there is nothing impossible for God. No matter how big your fear seems to you, Jesus is a billion times more powerful. He wants to liberate you from your fear, but you need to ask Him.
Lord Jesus, take away all my fears and anything in my life that could cause me to sin. Give me the strength to not take the easy option out when times are hard and the world is against You. I pray that I will have the courage to witness for You even when I'm under pressure. Help me to make sure that my words and actions do not deny You as the King of my heart and life. Amen
