Word on the Web
A special week by Alan Rainford, Manager of In2venture, looking at Peter's experience of Jesus through a cave trip.
Matthew 8 v 14-16
When Jesus went to Peter's house, he saw that Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever. Jesus touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she stood up and began to serve Jesus.
That evening people brought to Jesus many who had demons. Jesus spoke and the demons left them, and he healed all the sick.
The journey together continues looking at Peter's experience of Jesus through a cave trip.
We are ready to enter the cave we have been given and told all we need. We scramble down into the water and follow the stream as it enters the cave.
We stop, the water disappears into the darkness down a small water fall; we can just make out the bottom as the water hits the floor below. At this point we are excited at what to come or wishing we had never said we would do it.
We are put onto a rope and lower ourselves down the waterfall, we now experience that the rope is keeping us safe, we cannot fall and the rock has good grip (no algae). We get to the bottom and sit on the rock around a large pool of water, we still do not know what is coming next but the experience we have just had has given us the confidence for the next step.
Peter's experience of Jesus helped him to have confidence for the next step in his faith. If you are like me and following Jesus is not easy we need to keep going to allow God to stretch us so we can become more confident in him.
Jesus I am not always confident in my faith help me to be willing to be stretched to find my confidence in you. Amen.
