Word on the Web
2 Corinthians 7:5-7
When we came into Macedonia, we had no rest. We found trouble all around us. We had fighting on the outside and fear on the inside. But God, who comforts those who are troubled, comforted us when Titus came. We were comforted, not only by his coming but also by the comfort you gave him. Titus told us about your wish to see me and that you are very sorry for what you did. He also told me about your great care for me, and when I heard this, I was much happier.
God comforted Paul by sending Titus. Paul is very honest, he doesn't try to pretend that nothing hard ever happens just because he is a follower of Jesus; he admits his struggles and hardships. He is real and vulnerable.
Over time people have replaced honesty with pretending, many Christians pretend their lives are happy and suffer in total silence, they won't admit to their needs and weakness and wonder why God doesn't do something. God will bring cheer and comfort to those who are in need.
Talk to God; be honest with him like Paul was. Ask if you need God to comfort you. Be brave enough to say "I love God but life is tough right now."
God might use the Holy Spirit, body of believers, or the truth of his word to bring comfort to those in need.
Dear Lord, help us to seek you in times of trouble and to draw strength from you. Help us realise you care for us even when we do not think you do. As Christians we must understand not everything is going to be easy and to admit when we are struggling, we pray that we can be honest and ask when we need your comfort and help. Amen.
