A week of Lent Reflections taken from "Hope in Word, Hope in Action" - storiesofhope.org.uk Word on the Web
Hope is... a direction in life
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
My challenge in ministry
Much of my time is spent working with children and young people who have little hope, and suffer from low self-esteem and lack of aspiration. The seven year-old who is constantly reminded by his father that he wanted him aborted. The teenager who sees no need for GCSEs. Yet the children and young people of Byker find hope in simple encouragements, and the knowledge that they are loved by God. It is in very practical ways, through drop-ins and clubs, that God begins to offer life in all its fullness.
A reflection for Lent
Jesus' ministry had a clear direction, and much of what the gospels record happened on the way to Jerusalem and the cross. Jesus could see what lay ahead and could face the cross, because He saw the resurrection beyond. The youngsters in Byker are discovering that Jesus can show a direction, and the possibilities open to all of us, if we are willing to follow Him. We can find the hope we are looking for through Jesus, and His offer of a chance to live life to the full by reaching our potential in Him.
Lord and Father of all life, I praise you for your gift of life. May I have the faith to reach my potential in you. May I be the means through which you offer life in all its fullness to others. Amen
