A special week by Alan Rainford, Manager of In2venture, looking at Peter's experience of Jesus through a cave trip.
Mark 6 v 7-13
He called his twelve followers together and got ready to send them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits. This is what Jesus commanded them: "Take nothing for your trip except a walking stick. Take no bread, no bag, and no money in your pockets. Wear sandals, but take only the clothes you are wearing. When you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. If the people in a certain place refuse to welcome you or listen to you, leave that place. Shake its dust off your feet as a warning to them."
So the followers went out and preached that people should change their hearts and lives. They forced many demons out and put olive oil on many sick people and healed them.
The journey together continues looking at Peter's experience of Jesus through a cave trip.
As we make our way through the cave we are given a choice to stay in the stream way and try to keep out of the deeper water by using both sides of the passage to bridge across. Or we can climb up higher above the heads of the people below. Once we have done this higher section we can rejoin the others - at this point we all have another choice to stay in the stream way or go for a long low crawl. Once we have chosen we will not experience the others choice but we can learn from their experience. Was one person's experience better than the others? All moved forward and learnt; if people had not moved they would have missed out on the challenge and experience.
Peter and the other disciples were sent out and all had different experiences of seeing God move in people's lives and in their own lives. If we stand still in our Christian life we will miss out, it is all about becoming more like Jesus. All our experiences are different, mine is no better or worse than yours, the important thing is we keep making the choice to follow him the next step forward.
Jesus there's always one more corner to turn one more bridge to cross. Help me to be willing to keep moving forward with you and learn from my experience and the experience of others. Amen.
