A week of Lent Reflections taken from "Hope in Word, Hope in Action" - storiesofhope.org.uk

Hope is... a healing experience

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for your are with me, your rod and your staff they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

My challenge in ministry

Between being called to Church Army and applying to pursue my vocation, I had a brain haemorrhage. The night before my surgery, I read Psalm 23 in a new light. I realised that God never drops us in it; He leads us through situations. This revelation healed me of worry and anxiety. Every day I meet someone who needs healing. Thank God, I discover people who have the strength to forgive - like one brother and sister who hadn't spoken to each other for 30 years. Their hope in God is their motivation to conquer hurts and regrets. What a privilege to be involved with that healing!

A reflection for Lent

What hope and excitement comes when a 'secular' volunteer discovers their confidence, empowering them to work with the church after years of feeling rejected and unloved. When they recommit their lives to Christ it is even better. During Lent, I am more aware of my calling to help people on their spiritual journeys. Psalm 23 verse 4 reminds me that God can take us by the hand, and lead us through life's uneven and rocky experiences. No-one should have to journey on their own - and those that choose to do so...Jesus challenges us to draw up to that neighbour, and help them too.

Father God, strengthen us in our walk with you. Use us as you reach out and heal. In Jesus name, Amen.
