Philippians 4 v 8-9
Brothers and sisters, think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honourable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. Do what you learned and received from me, what I told you, and what you saw me do. And the God who gives peace will be with you.
I am quite competent when it comes to using a computer, but I don't understand how it works, so am useless when something goes wrong. I do remember one lesson from my early days of dabbling with computers, when I had a stab at programming - RIRO. It stands for Rubbish In Rubbish Out. If you feed rubbish into a computer, then you'll get rubbish out - obvious really!
The human body is just the same - feed it with dodgy food, and you'll end up with diarrhoea - the same Rubbish In Rubbish Out theory.
So why do we think we can feed our minds with all kinds of filth and garbage, and yet end up with something approaching "the mind of Christ?" We complain about sex scenes, violence and bad language on TV, but continue to plonk ourselves in front of it late at night. We laugh at dirty jokes, read unsuitable magazines and immerse ourselves in the trash of modern culture - and wonder when our minds become polluted.
So today - how are you going to feed good stuff into your mind - stuff that is "true and honourable and pure and beautiful and respected"?
God, I'm sorry for being so careless about what I see, listen to and watch. Help me find things that will enrich, enlighten and help me grow in faith. Amen.
