2 Corinthians 7:13b-16
That is why we were comforted.
Not only were we very comforted, we were even happier to see that Titus was so happy. All of you made him feel much better. I bragged to Titus about you, and you showed that I was right. Everything we said to you was true, and you have proved that what we bragged about to Titus is true. And his love for you is stronger when he remembers that you were all ready to obey. You welcomed him with respect and fear. I am very happy that I can trust you fully.
Have you ever trusted someone with a secret, something they've promised not to tell and then they did? That feeling of broken trust is horrible and makes you doubt who you can talk to in confidence. In this case Paul picked wisely and the Corinthians welcomed Titus, and Paul was able to draw comfort from the fact that he trusted them and they did not let him down.
Titus brought comfort. Titus made Paul happy with his happiness and joy. Paul is happy that he can trust the Corinthians completely. He acquaints them with the joy of Titus as well as of himself upon the account of their repentance and good behaviour. Great comfort and joy follow upon godly sorrow. As sin brings general grief, repentance and reformation bring general joy. Paul was glad, and Titus was glad, and the Corinthians were trust-worthy.
Dear Lord, trust is such an important element within any relationship, help us trust you with all our hearts and know that you would never hurt or betray us. Help us to act in a trustworthy way and be there for others when they need someone to rely on. Amen.
