2 Corinthians 1:8-11
Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the trouble we suffered in Asia. We had great burdens there that were beyond our own strength. We even gave up hope of living. Truly, in our own hearts we believed we would die. But this happened so we would not trust in ourselves but in God, who raises people from the dead. God saved us from these great dangers of death, and he will continue to save us. We have put our hope in him, and he will save us again. And you can help us with your prayers. Then many people will give thanks for us - that God blessed us because of their many prayers.
The two friends, Paul and Timothy, who this message comes from, had been having a really bad time. They had been pushed to their limit. Their own strength and even their will to lives to have been exhausted. But God did something that they couldn't do to turn things around, giving them new hope and courage to trust in Him.
I can echo that experience from my own life, as can many others. In my case he helped me out of a deep depression and a dangerous drinking habit to a positive life in which I could be a help to other people.
As you read this today, if you are close to your wits end; if you feel like you can't go on, let me urge you, please, to ask for God's help. Put your hope in him and he will show you a way forward and help you.
Or if you know someone who really needs God's help at the moment please pray for them. Prayer does make a difference and it's such an encouragement to them to know that you are praying. And when it's appropriate don't forget to celebrate and thank God for the difference he makes in the lives of so many people.
Thank you Lord, that when my strength fails you are always ready to come to my aid, to do things I can't do on my own. Please help me (my friend ..........) now, to overcome my fears and find new hope in you. Amen.
