Psalm 71:19-21
God, your justice reaches to the skies. You have done great things; God, there is no one like you.
You have given me many troubles and bad times, but you will give me life again. When I am almost dead, you will keep me alive.
You will make me greater than ever, and you will comfort me again.
One of the most wonderful things about our God is his capacity to forgive. As we have read today his "justice reaches to the skies" - so in other words there is absolutely nothing he can't forgive. I find this awesome.
But what's also awesome is the way in which He forgives us. Whilst we can be assured of receiving forgiveness, we can also be assured that God will stand by us and help us deal with and face the consequences caused by our actions.
Dealing with the mess created when we do something wrong can be a long and tough job, but we can be assured that God will be with us. As our psalmist has written, we may have "many troubles and bad times, but you (God) will give me life again."
Just because our God's justice reaches to the sky does not mean that we are free to sin as we wish. We will always have to face the consequences of our actions and we can do this knowing that God will always be with us and He will make us greater than ever and will comfort us again.
Your ability to forgive us Lord is truly amazing. I thank you that you will always be there to comfort us.
