Word on the Web

2 Corinthians 1:12-14
This is what we are proud of, and I can say it with a clear conscience: In everything we have done in the world, and especially with you, we have had an honest and sincere heart from God. We did this by God's grace, not by the kind of wisdom the world has. We write to you only what you can read and understand. And I hope that as you have understood some things about us, you may come to know everything about us. Then you can be proud of us, as we will be proud of you on the day our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

We hear a lot of negativity about pride. We are reminded that it is one of the seven deadly sins and that 'pride comes before a fall' and it's true that God may take issue with us over the matter of pride.
However, there is also a right sense of pride we can have in our achievements and in our dealings with other people. Doing what God asks of us and doing it well, with his help, brings a real sense of satisfaction and a degree of pride. So long as we have the right motives and are honest about God's involvement in our achievements there is no reason not to feel a sense of pride.

This may sound strange, but I believe it's about being proud of God and what he does in our lives and the lives of other people. Paul wants there to be every reason for Jesus to be pleased with us (and with him) when he meets us at the end of the age. To those who do what God wants in humility and faith He will say on that day, "you did well... Come and share my joy with me" (Matthew 25:21, 23).

Lord Jesus, please help me to do the things you ask of me and be the person you created me to be. Thank you that it makes you happy to see me doing well. Amen.
