2 Corinthians 8:16-22
I thank God because he gave Titus the same love for you that I have. Titus accepted what we asked him to do. He wanted very much to go to you, and this was his own idea. We are sending with him the brother who is praised by all the churches because of his service in preaching the Good News. Also, this brother was chosen by the churches to go with us when we deliver this gift of money. We are doing this service to bring glory to the Lord and to show that we really want to help.
We are being careful so that no one will criticize us for the way we are handling this large gift. We are trying hard to do what the Lord accepts as right and also what people think is right.
Also, we are sending with them our brother, who is always ready to help. He has proved this to us in many ways, and he wants to help even more now, because he has much faith in you.
A band had worked really hard over the last year to save up £500 in order to buy a new keyboard and amp; as they were searching for this within their budget, they came across a shop that was doing what they wanted for exactly £500. They were so happy and believed God was in this as they had managed to find it so quickly. When going to pay for the goods at the till later on that day the manager said "that's £400 lads". When one of the boys said that he thought the manager had made a mistake, the manager became defensive and thought the boys were trying to cheat him out of money. When he added up the bill again and realised he had undercharged by £100 he was very grateful that the boys had pointed out the error. The guys explained that they were a Christian band and part of their work was to teach honesty.
The band's attitude was very similar to that of Paul's, both tried hard to do what was right in God's eyes; the band could have easily ignored the manager's error and let it go unnoticed, however they were living for God and wanted to do the right thing.
Lord God, we pray for strength to do the right thing in all situations, especially those in which we could act in an untrustworthy way or turn a blind eye. We pray that our actions of honesty and Christian love could open people's eyes to God and bring more people to him.
