1 Peter 4 v 7-11
The time is near when all things will end. So think clearly and control yourselves so you will be able to pray. Most importantly, love each other deeply, because love will cause people to forgive each other for many sins. Open your homes to each other, without complaining. Each of you has received a gift to use to serve others. Be good servants of God's various gifts of grace. Anyone who speaks should speak words from God. Anyone who serves should serve with the strength God gives so that in everything God will be praised through Jesus Christ. Power and glory belong to him forever and ever. Amen
We are in a time of great change at church - we have recently united with another church in our town, and we are still getting to know each other better. One of our church leaders has invited my family and I for lunch after worship in Sunday. That's rather a generous offer, since my wife and I have five children!
What can you do to show hospitality to someone you don't know very well? Peter's assurance is that "each of you" has received a gift that should be used to serve someone else. Perhaps your circumstances mean that you can't easily invite friends and neighbours round to eat with you, but we can all show God's love to others. When we do this, in God's name and strength, we are giving glory to God.
It is never too late to start serving God through serving others - do it now. Some have found that they entertained angels as they did so!
Loving God, thank you for your endless and perfect love for us. Please help me to find a new way to share that love with others, so that the glory goes to you. Amen.
