John 12 v 37-43
Though Jesus had done many miracles in front of the people, they still did not believe in him. This was to bring about what Isaiah the prophet had said:
"Lord, who believed what we told them?
Who saw the Lord's power in this?"
This is why the people could not believe: Isaiah also had said,
"He has blinded their eyes, and he has closed their minds. Otherwise they would see with their eyes and understand in their minds and come back to me and be healed."
Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.
But many believed in Jesus, even many of the leaders. But because of the Pharisees, they did not say they believed in him for fear they would be put out of the synagogue. They loved praise from people more than praise from God.
What an amazing opportunity! Here is Jesus spending time with people, talking to them, chilling out with them, just doing life with them. He heals people and does miracles ... and they still don't get it. They don't accept Him, they don't believe.
A few years ago I was mountain walking in the highlands at winter time. With little warning, the weather deteriorated very quickly and before long we were experiencing some extreme weather with blizzard conditions on a very exposed part of the mountain. Reduced to crawling due to the high wind speed and with poor visibility it became very difficult to navigate. We deviated from our route and became lost. Suddenly, the wind dropped and the blizzard cleared enough to see the surrounding hills for a few moments. From that glimpse we were able to work out our location and get down off the mountain safely!
Sometimes, life seems like that. It can be tough and we face challenges and it's hard to "see" what's happening. But then we catch a glimpse of what God is doing and we realise Jesus is right here with us just like He always promised. Jesus wants to spend time with you. Will you give Him some time today?
Jesus please give me eyes to really "see" you at work. Show me the bigger picture. Show me what you want to teach me today. Thank you that you will never leave me.
