John 10 v 39-42
They tried to take Jesus again, but he escaped from them. Then he went back across the Jordan River to the place where John had first baptized. Jesus stayed there, and many people came to him and said, "John never did a miracle, but everything John said about this man is true." And in that place many believed in Jesus.
Jesus has spent a great deal of time talking to the religious leaders but they just won't listen. Instead they try to seize him. It isn't the only time that they tried to take Jesus - but couldn't. God always made sure that Jesus wasn't touched by the authorities until it was the right time. I find that very reassuring, knowing that God has His hand on my life and won't let things happen until the time is right - until I've reached the point where I'm ready to deal with the situation, whatever it may be, good or bad.
Jesus has faced a great deal of hostility and rejection - yet there are plenty of people who want to come to him and seek him out. I find it fascinating that the people refer back to John the Baptist. Because of the things John said before he was killed, the people believed. He didn't perform the miracles that Jesus did but many found it easier to believe John than see the truth in Jesus directly. Isn't it funny how it often takes the word of someone else to help a person see what has been in front of them all the time?
You just may be John to someone. Somebody may see the truth about Jesus because of what you do or say. Interesting thought, isn't it?
Lord, it's liberating to know that you have my life securely in your hand. You know me so well that you know what I can handle and what I'm not yet strong enough to face. When I encounter situations today that seem beyond me, I know that, with your help, I can face them. Please give me the courage, strength and wisdom I need today. Help me be the sort of person who others look at - and see you. Amen
