Word on the Web
1 Peter 5 v 6-7
Be humble under God's powerful hand so he will lift you up when the right time comes. Give all your worries to him, because he cares about you.
As I read these verses, the first thing that popped into my head was the Bobby McFerrin song, "Don't worry, be happy." It includes the lyric, "In every life there must be trouble, but when you worry you make it double." McFerrin has been quoted as saying, "'don't worry, be happy'...is a pretty neat philosophy in four words."
There is a world of difference between denying the reality of your situation, and committing it to God's care. The first is a hopeless grasping at air, the second is a faith-based response. It is trusting in God who holds you in His hands.
We are never promised an easy life, a gentle ride through life. It is inevitable that we will face trying times and hardships of one sort or another. Through it all, though, God knows our pain and shares in it. At the right time, He will lift us up.
It might seem that God is taking too long to come to your aid, that He has forgotten you. Take heart: He will sustain us. He cares for us. He really cares.
Sustaining God, thank You that in your infinite love You will never leave us or forsake us. Thank You that there is no problem too big for you to deal with, and nothing that can ever separate us from your love in Christ Jesus. Please help me to learn to trust you more, and be more ready to consciously share my worries with You, and to listen for your words of comfort and hope. Amen.
