2 Samuel 6 v 12-15
The people told David, "The LORD has blessed the family of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because the Ark of God is there." So David went and brought it up from Obed-Edom's house to Jerusalem with joy. When the men carrying the Ark of the LORD had walked six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fat calf. Then David danced with all his might before the LORD. He had on a holy linen vest. David and all the Israelites shouted with joy and blew the trumpets as they brought the Ark of the LORD to the city.
Yesterday's passage told the story of how David sent the box containing the covenant of God to a man called Obed-Edom out of fear because the Lord had struck down a man who touched the Ark. The Lord blessed Obed and so David felt more confident about bringing the Ark to Jerusalem but this time he was taking no chances and sacrificed an animal every six paces!
David was very glad to be taking the symbol of God's presence with him to his hometown. It says that David worshipped with all his might. Does our worship reflect this type of devotion or is our worship rather half-hearted? Having God's blessing on our lives is a great thing and should cause us to worship him without fear. But that blessing came a great price-the death of Jesus on the cross. That type of undeserved blessing causes us to worship with all of our might.
Lord, give us a heart to worship you with all our mind, with all our soul and with all our might!
