Word on the Web
1 Peter 5 v 8-11
Control yourselves and be careful! The devil, your enemy, goes around like a roaring lion looking for someone to eat. Refuse to give in to him, by standing strong in your faith. You know that your Christian family all over the world is having the same kinds of suffering.
And after you suffer for a short time, God, who gives all grace, will make everything right. He will make you strong and support you and keep you from falling. He called you to share in his glory in Christ, a glory that will continue forever. All power is his forever and ever. Amen.
These are wonderful words of encouragement that we need to hear again. Take a moment to re-read the passage slowly and carefully, and let God speak to your heart about this.
The devil is real, and is prowling around you, ready to pounce if you let him. The good news, though, is that he is caged, and can only get to you if you walk too close. Satan has no authority over you. He cannot harm you unless you place yourself in harm's way. You have no need to fear him, because he had already been defeated by Christ. You can refuse to give in to the devil's taunts, you can stand against his attacks, because you have faith in God who rules over all.
What a wonderful thing to be able to share in Christ's glory by standing firm against the enemy. God will give you the means to walk away from temptation and the strength to choose the right way to live. In doing that, you confirm the victory that Christ has won over sin and death. Thanks be to God.
Victorious God, I thank You that there is no need to fear anyone or anything, for all is in Your control. I thank You that this mean that all of my energy can be spent in worshipping and serving you. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on you. Amen.
