Word on the Web

John 12 v 27-33

"Now I am very troubled. Should I say, 'Father, save me from this time'? No, I came to this time so I could suffer. Father, bring glory to your name!"
Then a voice came from heaven, "I have brought glory to it, and I will do it again."
The crowd standing there, who heard the voice, said it was thunder.
But others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
Jesus said, "That voice was for your sake, not mine. Now is the time for the world to be judged; now the ruler of this world will be thrown down. If I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people toward me." Jesus said this to show how he would die.

The King of love, power, and understatements:

"Now I am very troubled"

You can perhaps hear it in His voice as he says "That voice was for your sake, not mine". He sounds hurt to me. Its funny how even back then without Newton, Darwin and Einstein to influence them, people's first thought was still to credit other things when God said something! That must be really tough; God speaking to us, and us thinking it's something else.

But, Jesus can somehow be hurt without blaming us - he knows that if we could see him we would be drawn to him. He knows that the devil is the one who pollutes our minds against God, and with him defeated the way is open for us to be with God again.

We have a love-filled Saviour who is able to see the good in us, and is willing to do anything to be close to us - even though he knows we will still hear his voice and accredit it to others, to science, to angels... to foolishness.

Man, how bad do I feel about being cynical and not trusting that voice inside me! I will be more attentive, because I don't want to hurt my friend Jesus.

Sorry God, speak to me. Holy Spirit, living inside of me, present with me every day, be my guide. Be my first thought, my last breath, keep this temple of God alight.
