Luke 2: 10-12
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I am bringing you good news that will be a great joy to all the people. Today your Saviour was born in the town of David. He is Christ, the Lord. This is how you will know him: You will find a baby wrapped in pieces of cloth and lying in a feeding box."
"The pathology results from Margaret's second surgery have become available and show there are no cancer cells at either of the two sites where they had operated. '100% necrosis' to use the technical term."
"Dear Friends, we are so happy to announce the safe arrival of a dark haired little boy. He was born yesterday (5th November) at 11:30 p.m. and weighed 7lb 3oz. Mum and son are doing well, and big bro doesn't seem too fazed about having a baby around. God be praised!"
These are two emails I received recently from friends. Contained in them are messages of relief, tears, joy, gratitude. Their lives have been changed. For you I suppose they are heart-warming but not life-changing.
At the first Christmas, the angel's message was of "Good news of great joy for all people". It's not just good news for the shepherds or for the people living in the first century. It's good news for all people of all time, all nations and races. It's not just heart-warming, it's life-changing. "Today your Saviour was born in the town of David". God has not left us alone but has come to us in his Son. He has come to be my Saviour and your Saviour. A message of relief, tears, gratitude and great joy.
Father, still our hearts again today to hear the song the angels sang. Soften our hearts so that we can feel the great joy of knowing Jesus as our Saviour. We worship him now the Christ lying in a manger. Amen.
