John 13 v 36-38

Simon Peter asked Jesus, "Lord, where are you going?"
Jesus answered, "Where I am going you cannot follow now, but you will follow later."
Peter asked, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I am ready to die for you!"
Jesus answered, "Are you ready to die for me? I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you will say three times that you don't know me."

I love mountain biking - it's a passion! I had a knee injury once and I was out of action for quite a long time. My mates had planned a big mountain biking expedition and I really wanted to go. My knee seemed to be healing well and I thought I'd be ready for the big one! But, my doctor wasn't convinced and said that repetitive stress on the knee joint would not be good and probably do lasting damage. I didn't really want to hear that and was still pretty determined to go - I didn't want to miss out! However, I decided to listen and stay at home. He was right! There was no way I was ready and in fact when I started biking again it became very obvious my knee was weak. If I had gone on that expedition I probably wouldn't have managed it and mucked it up for the other guys. "Be patient" the doctor said. Similar to what Jesus was saying to Peter. Jesus knew Peter wasn't as ready as he thought. Jesus has the best plans for us and perfect timing. Sometimes we get confused when difficult situations come along and we wonder what's really happening. We want to bash ahead and just get through it. All the time Jesus is leading us, teaching us things. His timing is perfect - be patient.

Lord Jesus show the bigger picture of my life. Show me what's really important. Please give me patience as you teach me when things are easy and when things are tough. Equip me for all that lies ahead.
