Judges 18 v 1-6
At that time Israel did not have a king. And at that time the tribe of Dan was still looking for a land where they could live, a land of their own. The Danites had not yet been given their own land among the tribes of Israel. So, from their family groups, they chose five soldiers from the cities of Zorah and Eshtaol to spy out and explore the land. They were told, "Go, explore the land."
They came to the mountains of Ephraim, to Micah's house, where they spent the night. When they came near Micah's house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. So they stopped there and asked him, "Who brought you here? What are you doing here? Why are you here?"
He told them what Micah had done for him, saying, "He hired me. I am his priest."
They said to him, "Please ask God if our journey will be successful."
The priest said to them, "Go in peace. The LORD is pleased with your journey."
Whatever age we get to in life, we will always experience doubt. It's not just something which affects young people - just wait until you are thinking of getting married, planning a family, or making some other big decision and you will realise that there is usually more than one option facing you. Obviously sometimes it is very easy to know which way to turn. Other times it is much harder, particularly when we are under a lot of pressure, from work, family situations or even the pain of illness or bereavement. At such times, as this passage from Judges demonstrates, it is always important to ask advice - even if doing so makes us feel humble and vulnerable. There are advice lines, experts and professionals available on nearly every subject - and that is a wonderful thing - but don't forget that you can talk to God about everything. It doesn't have to be poetic prayers or verses that rhyme, a simple sentence asking God for help and advice will suffice. And you'll be surprised how trusting in God can bring so much comfort, perspective and joy.
Let me thank you, my God, for always being there when I call, and for loving me every minute of the day.
