An Advent Special to mark the start of Advent
Word on the Web
John 3:16-18
God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! No one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn't have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God's only Son.
This passage is such an amazing insight into our relationship with God from his end.
God loved the people of the world, that's everyone you and me included, so much that he gave his only son Jesus for us. This was what God needed to do to maintain a relationship with us. God wants that relationship so much that he is willing to make big sacrifices for it. Without the sacrifice of Jesus, man's sin was stopping us being in fellowship with God. What sort of sacrifice are you making to keep up your end of the relationship? Have you taken the time to really consider that God did this so that he could be in a relationship with you? That he loves you that much?
Lord help us to understand the fullness of your love for us. Help us to know how much it cost you to send Jesus for us and help us to respond by giving you what you want from us. Amen
