John 14 v 27-31
"I leave you peace; my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world does. So don't let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me say to you, 'I am going, but I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you should be happy that I am going back to the Father, because he is greater than I am. I have told you this now, before it happens, so that when it happens, you will believe. I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father, so I do exactly what the Father told me to do.
"Come now, let us go."
Where do you find your security? Do you find it in what others say about you? Do you find security in money? Or do you find security in your possessions, such as your house, surround sound cinema TV, and everything else?
No doubt the disciples had got familiar with Jesus being around, and even felt secure with his presence. Jesus tells them here not to be afraid as he has to leave them, knowing full well that they will be afraid, scared, and even insecure.
All the way through this week, Jesus has left the challenge of trust in John 14, and here again there is the challenge of trust and security. Who is it that we ultimately trust for our lives? Who is it that we will turn too, or who is it that we know will never let us down, even when things get really tough, or we do things we shouldn't do?
Throughout this chapter Jesus is telling us that we can have confidence in him, trust in him, believe in him, and accept him, and he promises that he will never leave us. Are we prepared to step out in faith, and say, "yes Lord we trust you with our lives, and we accept everything you have done for us, and want to do for us".
Dear God, I love you, I trust you, and I accept you into my life. Thank you for the things you have done for me, and right now I want to say that I believe in who you are, and accept you in my life.
