Psalm 69 v 29-33
I am sad and hurting. God, save me and protect me.
I will praise God in a song and will honour him by giving thanks.
That will please the LORD more than offering him cattle,
more than sacrificing a bull with horns and hoofs.
Poor people will see this and be glad. Be encouraged, you who worship God.
The LORD listens to those in need and does not look down on captives.
I find it quite a relief that we can cry out to our Heavenly Father in prayer and be heard. Living under the New Covenant we can give thanks and praise and know that God is God. He wants a personal relationship with us, and is prepared to meet us where we are when we cry out to him.
I don't know about you but I would struggle with doing the sacrificing and burnt offering ritual. I am so glad that it is no longer a requirement. Jesus tells us in Luke 11 verse 9
"So I tell you ask, and God will give it to you. Search, and you will find. Knock and the door will open for you."
God's word is full of encouragement to us. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light, he shows us how to do things God's way.
There are so many examples in the Bible for us to learn from. Take a look at some of Paul's letters to the early church. We need to be encouraged and to encourage each other. Who do you know that needs some encouragement? What are you going to do about it?
Father I just want to give you all the glory and honour, and praise you in all circumstances. Help me to be an encourager, strengthen me to do and be all that you intend. Thank you Father. Amen.
