Psalm 75 v 6-10
No one from the east or the west or the desert can judge you.
God is the judge; he judges one person as guilty and another as innocent.
The Lord holds a cup of anger in his hand; it is full of wine mixed with spices. He pours it out even to the last drop, and the wicked drink it all.
I will tell about this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob.
He will take all power away from the wicked, but the power of good people will grow.
There are people who like to argue the Bible is made up of randomly selected texts written by men. Anyone choosing to believe the Spirit of God was not the inspiration behind the collected scriptures we Christians hold sacred, could read that passage and completely miss the significance of the facts. No matter what man's opinion may be, God reigns supreme and I for one "will tell about this forever". God's original plan was for a perfect world for us. The last sentence there affirms that the plan remains the same and ultimately, the world He created will be restored to its former glory. Wickedness will choke on itself and vanish. That's either true or not true. The choice is ours. Hope or no hope?
How do you feel when you want to offer something good to someone and it gets rejected? Humans are created in God's image so we have a clue, confirmed in this passage, about how God feels when we reject His blessing.
If you struggle with "cups of anger" and forgiveness is difficult for you, may I suggest writing three letters? Write the first to the person/s you need to write to, using the words you need to use but then read it and destroy it. Then write another, slightly toned down but not shying away from the issue. Read and destroy it. Then write one you wouldn't regret posting and read it. I have found this technique useful because I can point to a specific day in my life, knowing that a hurtful situation was laid to rest rather than wondering whether my "heartfelt" prayer was really meant.
Almighty God, I really struggle with ... (tell God about it). I am sorry if I have allowed anger a hold over me. Release me to sing your praise so that the power to do good will grow in me. I will sing your praise. I will sing your praise. AMEN!
