A week of Lent Reflections taken from "Hope in Word, Hope in Action" - storiesofhope.org.uk

Hope is... a new life
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:14
My challenge in ministry
Many of the couples we work with have an anxiety and fear about the future. Not just about the birth itself, but what lies beyond. Increasing numbers have come from broken family backgrounds themselves and are desperate not to let that happen to their own new family. Through a variety of ways including workshops and courses we offer words of hope, encouragement and direction. Getting them to picture what a good family life could look like helps to impart vision and strengthen their motivation.
A reflection for Lent
In the midst of change, many people often move either into a feeling of despair or hope. This seems particularly so during the first year of becoming a family. This is not a task designed to be done alone. It is an opportunity for a sense of community to flourish. It is also a unique stage for eyes to be opened to our extraordinary God who is the creator and sustainer of life. This can be a moment in time when people open themselves to God, and respond to the gift of life he has brought into the world through their love for one another.
Dear God, I pray for all those expecting their first child. May your Spirit strengthen them in the task ahead, and fill them with love for you and one another, and give them a joy and a hope for the future. Amen.
