2 Samuel 9 v 9-13

Then King David called Saul's servant Ziba. David said to him, "I have given your master's grandson everything that belonged to Saul and his family. You, your sons, and your servants will farm the land and harvest the crops. Then your family will have food to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master's grandson, will always eat at my table." (Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.) Ziba said to King David, "I, your servant, will do everything my master, the king, commands me." So Mephibosheth ate at David's table as if he were one of the king's sons. Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica. Everyone in Ziba's family became Mephibosheth's servants. Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king's table. And he was crippled in both feet.

Following his promise to do so in the preceding verses, we now see David handing the land that had belonged to Saul over to Mephibosheth through his servant Ziba. Mephibosheth is also given his promised place at the king's dining table.

A friend and I have recently been challenged in our conduct when making promises. We find it is so easy to promise to do things and then to simply forget. Promises to do something small for someone, to call a friend or to pray for a need can simply slip our minds. We have been challenged enough that we have taken action. My friend now wears a bracelet saying "faithfulness", so that she can always be reminded. I write lists and leave them in conspicuous places. Both are small changes to our lives that are beginning to make large differences.

How do you do in this area? By showing our faithfulness to our friends, I believe we can also show an impact that our faith has on our lives. We want to be distinctive people for all the right reasons. Let's be known as people who really do put God first, others second and ourselves third.

Ask God to remind you of anything that you may have forgotten about. If there is, pray for forgiveness, and ask Him to help you to fulfil all of your promises.
