John 21 v 23-25
So a story spread among the followers that this one would not die. But Jesus did not say he would not die. He only said, "If I want him to live until I come back, that is not your business."
That follower is the one who is telling these things and who has now written them down. We know that what he says is true.
There are many other things Jesus did. If every one of them were written down, I suppose the whole world would not be big enough for all the books that would be written.
I would guess that all of us at some point have played the game, Chinese whispers. And isn't it great to see what you started the chain off with can turn into.
This is not the same when it comes to the things that Jesus says. We need to ensure that we are careful not to misquote, or say things that Jesus didn't say.
But what need is there for things to be changed at all. John here suggests that the things that Jesus did and said could not be written down, because the books would be going on for ever and ever.
So let's just focus on the things that Jesus says to us, through us, and the things he does as well, that way people will learn that Jesus is not just a theory, but someone who is real, and the things he does are amazing as well.
Jesus, help me to speak of the things you have done in my life, and give me the words to speak to others. Amen.
