Part of a themed week on "Challenges in mission".
A new adventure - Ephesians 2:10
God has made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.
Living and working in Bolivia enabled me to have some incredible adventures. These are some of my most vivid memories:
A 27 hour bus journey along dirt roads which included digging the bus out of a ditch, twice!
Swimming in an alligator infested river.
Catching and eating piranhas.
Visiting a hotel made totally from salt.
Buying dynamite from a stall in the street.
Almost riding my bike off a cliff while trying to steer, brake and take photos at the same time.
Capsizing my canoe in white water.
Dangerous, yes, exciting, definitely, not only that but encounters and experiences that have helped me learn, grow and trust God (as well as bringing my prayer life on by leaps and bounds!)
By choosing to follow God's plans for our lives we are not signing up, as some think, to a life of rules, boredom and monotony. When you are walking with Jesus life is rarely dull, but nor is it easy. It will be tough, challenging and even frightening at times, but it will also be thrilling, exciting and never boring.
Do you want to live your life to the full? To be able to look back upon the good and bad times with a feeling of satisfaction rather than regret? Then ask God to reveal his will to you today, then strap yourself in and get ready for the ride!
Father thank you that this life is an adventure. Thank you for the surprises and excitement that we can know. Thank you for your protection and love when we face dangers and challenges and your comfort when we suffer. Please help me to face the future with hope and anticipation, to seek your will for my life, and to take all the opportunities you present me with. Amen.
