John 20 v 24-25
Thomas (called Didymus), who was one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other followers kept telling Thomas, "We saw the Lord."
But Thomas said, "I will not believe it until I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were and put my hand into his side."
It is not unusual to have doubts, after all for Thomas who was not there it must have seemed incredible. Jesus, who he had seen killed on the cross, alive?! I suppose if someone said to me that they had seen Frank Lampard and Rooney playing for the local team I would find it incredible. To Thomas it is incredible that Jesus is alive. He wants proof of the fact and makes the bold statement. Some have said Thomas had little faith. If I was there I would probably have said the same and I wonder how many of us would have as well. The beauty of God's love for each of us is that at times we don't understand it and can't comprehend it.
There are times when we do doubt and we become like Thomas. The incredible thing is that God knows our weaknesses and loves each one of us so much even when we doubt and continue to doubt. His love remains constant through the valleys and mountains of our lives.
Father God in our times of doubt help us to over come our doubts, our misgivings, our lack of faith. In days when we struggle we ask that you walk with us, guide and help us. Amen
