Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:14-15
If you forgive others when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
It is impossible to insist that someone forgives another person; it can only come from the heart. It might be the repeated mocking of an accent, or the thoughtless noise of a neighbour, or the favouritism of a parent for another child. How will we ever find the inner resources to forgive these things? Or worse?
Only by becoming gratefully aware of the way God has forgiven us - limitless, unending and with no strings attached - can we find the generosity to do the same.
Jesus, you died for me, so that I may know your love. You forgive my wrongs day after day when I stumble and fall. I want to become more like you, to love, to live, and to forgive those who wrong me. Amen
