Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:33-34
Seek first [God's] kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
God has placed in our world all that is needed for people to live without fear. It depends on men and women establishing justice (or righteousness - it is the same word) for their fellow humans. If the justice of the Kingdom of God dominates the actions of Christians, everyone's needs will be provided for. To be honest, there is more challenge than consolation in that. It should spur us into action.
In the mean time, Jesus gives us some straightforward common sense - worry only gives you two days' trouble for the price of one. So don't!
Lord Jesus, there is still so much injustice in the world, and so many people who do not recognise you as Lord. May I play my part in bringing about your kingdom today. Amen
