Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:13
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
We are individuals who need to be strong enough to find the capacity to do good. That is why we pray that we will be spared temptation. The literal meaning of the original words is a much more practical plea for help in the face of physical danger: 'Do not put us to the ultimate test.'
In places where the worst evil a Christian faces is to be mocked in the media, it is easy to forget that the plea to be spared from making the ultimate sacrifice of one's life under a tyrannical regime is very real to many of our fellow believers.
Lord Jesus, in many places of the world today to be a Christian means to face real persecution while most of the world enjoys freedom to believe what they like. Help me to stand up for you in whatever situation I find myself in, and have the strength and courage to resist evil. Amen
