Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel
Written by Peter Graystone.

Matthew 5:13
If the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot.

Where does Jesus need us to be like salt, quietly and invisibly making the world a better place? In the health services, in industry, in financial institutions, in schools, in retail, in nightclubs, in computer technology, in sport, in television. Wherever people work and play, Christians can improve the quality of the society they are part of by consciously modelling Jesus' values.

There is, of course, the horrible possibility that Christians lose their concentration and come to represent all that is judgmental, joyless and unfriendly about religion. 'Good for nothing' Christians, Jesus calls them. Oh dear!

Jesus, keep me from losing my focus on you, and help me model my life on your values. Amen
