Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 5:15
[People do not] light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
To understand what Jesus meant, imagine a dark corner. In it, there is a small lamp, full of olive oil, with a trimmed wick. Will it make any difference? Of course it will! But just think what a difference a hundred would make, or a thousand!
This is a call to us all to be evangelists - every one of us making a tiny difference. People come to God gladly when they recognise his light. They see that the presence of God transforms lives, and want to experience it. That's why the work of the Church Army is so vital.
Thank you Lord, for the work of evangelists and all who stand up in your name. Help me to play my part as a witness for you. Amen
