Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:3-4
When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
It is important to look occasionally at the hidden life of our hearts. The point of giving is not that we should feel good, or have our guilt eased, but simply that the Good News will make the world a better place.
Secretly do good today. Nothing spectacular! Give something that will make people glad to be alive! Enrich someone's life - family, friend or stranger - and never tell anyone what you have done. We would not dream of telling you where your gift should go.
Lord God, help me to be wise in my giving and help others who need help. Let me not do this for pride or self-gain, but follow your teaching. Show me today who I should help. Amen
