Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:6
When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Jesus urges people, no matter what their situation, to get their perspective on the world right by sharing their feelings about it with God. He suggests that the best way to do this is by finding a place where it is possible to pray with absolute honesty and integrity - a place where only God will hear.
Prayer is not just for emergencies or for church services; it is for all circumstances. Is there room in your life for prayer for those who suffer; for unabashed praise; for prayers for those who are ill; for confessing sins; for praying for those who have never heard the Good News; for grateful thanks? Today's the day!
When you can today, find your own room to pray in. Make a list of people who you want to pray for. Add to the list the situations around that need your prayer. Then add your own name to the list too. Then, simply and alone, offer these prayers to God, and listen to him.
