Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 6:9
This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.'
These are the first words of the Lord's Prayer. Jesus intended them not primarily as words to be repeated, but as guidelines to help us know what to pray. Familiarity means that we have ceased to be astonished by their audacity. We are praying, brazenly, for the planet on which we live to become like heaven.
Heaven is a place where God is 'hallowed' (that means, treated as absolutely holy and set apart because of his sheer goodness and greatness). We ask God to make that true of earth as well.
My Father God in heaven, may your name today be used with honesty, respect and integrity. Help me to treat your with honour with everyone I meet. Amen
