John 20 v 15-18
Jesus asked her, "Woman, why are you crying? Whom are you looking for?"
Thinking he was the gardener, she said to him, "Did you take him away, sir? Tell me where you put him, and I will get him."
Jesus said to her, "Mary."
Mary turned toward Jesus and said in the Jewish language, "Rabboni." (This means Teacher.)
Jesus said to her, "Don't hold on to me, because I have not yet gone up to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am going back to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "
Mary Magdalene went and said to the followers, "I saw the Lord!" And she told them what Jesus had said to her.
Mary is distraught, she comes to do the awful job of embalming and burying her Lord and Master. She finds the body is not there and does not recognise her Lord in the person who speaks to her. Then He speaks her name and she recognises the voice.
There are times in our Christian lives when it is hard to recognise God in our lives. It is the small voice which seems to come at unexpected times and in the moments when we least expect God to say something to us he does. For Mary it was the last thing she was expecting to hear. Some times God speaks to us in the most amazing places when we least expect it. I have heard God speaking to me in words that I just can not fathom out how he does it. In a particular place last year I was feeling so useless with myself, so worthless, and was listening to others not God. He showed me Psalm 139, but I did not notice until a song called "Your amazing" just so spoke to me. God used this song to show me wondrous things about myself and His love. For each of us God thinks we are truly amazing and we should never forget that fact.
Father God help us to hear you in ways where we cannot fail to notice you, help us to learn to hear your voice. Help us to follow in our lives your will. Amen
