Ephesians 1:3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. In Christ, God has given us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly world. That is, in Christ, he chose us before the world was made so that we would be his holy people - people without blame before him.
She was standing at the bus stop, waving. I couldn't understand why she would wave at me. I didn't even know her that well. I walked across to her and asked her out and she said "yes", she chose me! And I felt so good, because someone had chosen me.
God stands at the beginning of time and he has chosen you to be with him! It is a risk for God, because you could say no. But he waves at you and wants you to walk across the road, so that you would discover the joy and excitement of knowing that God has chosen you.
He knows all about you, the things you feel good about and those things that you would rather keep quiet about. And he still chooses you! There is nothing about you that will put him off, he wants you!
And he wants you to be committed to him, no double-timing, that is what being a "holy people" is all about.
No wonder Paul starts with praise, because God chose him, the Christians in Ephesus and God has chosen you!
Dear God, Thank you that you want me to come to you. Help me to see you waving at me and give me the courage to walk across to you. I want to have the joy that comes from knowing that you want me. Amen
