Ephesians 1:15-18

That is why since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks to God for you. I always remember you in my prayers, asking the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you will know him better. I pray also that you will have greater understanding in your heart so you will know the hope to which he has called us and that you will know how rich and glorious are the blessings God has promised his holy people.

Someone once asked me if I slept with my glasses on. "Of course I do!" I replied, "If I didn't then my dreams would be out of focus!"

Paul's prayer for the Christians in Ephesus was for more focus in their lives and he prayed for three things

The first was that they would have the spirit of Wisdom. Wisdom is more than just knowledge, it is about knowing what the right thing is, it is about doing the right thing at the right time.

The second thing Paul prayed for was revelation. Revelation is all about hidden things coming out into the open. Opening a present is a form of revelation. I think Paul is asking that these Christians will be able to see just how much God has given them. They cannot see or understand this and so they need a "revelation".

And finally Paul prays that they will understand, not in their minds, but in their hearts all the good things that God has in store. Understanding in your heart is more than just knowledge. I know that my wife loves me, this understanding is more than just head knowledge I see that love and experience that love in many ways. I understand in my heart that she loves me and that makes me want to go "whoopee!!" Paul prays that they will understand all the good things that God has in their hearts.

So what do you pray for? Do you pray for wisdom? Do you pray for revelation? Do you pray for a heart-understanding of God's goodness?

Perhaps you should pray for these things today! To have more focus in your life with God.
