Ephesians 3 v 14-21
So I bow in prayer before the Father from whom every family in heaven and on earth gets its true name. I ask the Father in his great glory to give you the power to be strong inwardly through his Spirit. I pray that Christ will live in your hearts by faith and that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God's holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ's love - how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is. Christ's love is greater than anyone can ever know, but I pray that you will be able to know that love. Then you can be filled with the fullness of God.
With God's power working in us, God can do much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine. To him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus for all time, forever and ever. Amen.
Paul tries to explain the depth and breadth of Christ's love. Coming from a dysfunctional family I have often struggled to understand love. In my search for love I turned to many forms of illicit love, always being disillusioned. It was only in Christ that I've come to grasp the true meaning of love. How has your search been? What roads have you taken? Pause for a minute and think of all the twists and turns you have taken in your life.
The mistakes you have made. The hurts you have felt and the hurts you have caused. Above all, think of the hurts you have caused your Father in heaven. Ultimately the journey is worth it because you've come to know true love - the love of God's son Jesus.
You see the greatest adventure in life is not climbing the highest mountain, sailing the oceans or discovering the cosmos. It is not about starting a successful business or finding a perfect partner. These produce a momentary thrill or fulfilment. But the greatest of all adventure is discovering why you are here. Then you find the answer to your soul's longing, the fullness of God and His love for you.
Many years ago I reached out and shared the message of the gospel to a fundamental Hindu who was extremely eager to understand the Cross. He was a lecturer at the IISc (India's version of Oxford or MIT) but suffering after a divorce and close to a mental breakdown. Today he is happily married with two kids, a Christian apologist, teacher and an evangelist in South India, leading hundreds to Christ. It's amazing what the depth of the love of Jesus can achieve when you share it.
May the love of Jesus fill me as the waters fill the oceans. Amen
