I will set My tabernacle among you, and My soul shall not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people. Leviticus 26:11-12 NKJV
Christians are still subject to seeing the physical world through sin-stained glasses. Jesus will fix us eventually, but till then, we can’t afford to act as if we’re above falling to temptation. In the context Leviticus 26, we can’t take God’s blessings for granted.
The law was a conditional covenant, so God’s blessings were contingent on His people obeying His commands. In Christ, God’s grace overrides our inability to do so consistently—but we can’t ever forget His grace. God wants relationship with us so much that He died for it—just so someday, He could walk through our neighborhoods and we would all be glad to see each other.
We show God our love for Him by obeying His commands. Jesus didn’t get rid of the law; He fulfilled it. He made it possible for His Spirit to live in us, guiding us into His truth and leading us to live lives of love and grace. No matter how often we go off track, we can get back on and into that life—giving relationship with Jesus.
Prayer: God, thank You for wanting a real, meaningful relationship with me. Help me love You more than anything else so I can love others the way You do.
