Some Global History before the story.

In 2008 United nations established it's first gay rights declaration. In all, 66 of the U.N.'s 192 member countries signed the nonbinding declaration _ which backers called a historic step to push the General Assembly to deal more forthrightly with any-gay discrimination. More than 70 U.N. members outlaw homosexuality, and in several of them homosexual acts can be punished by execution... the declaration was signed by all 27 European Union members, as well as Japan, Australia, Mexico and three dozen other countries. DAVID CRARY 12/19/08 HuffintonPost

The US did not sign, Israel did sign.

Israel, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Cyprus are the only countries in the Middle East[3] where homosexuality between consenting adults in private is not illegal and homosexuals are not persecuted under law. In most other Middle Eastern countries homosexuality is illegal, often punishable by corporal punishment, prison, and even the death penalty. Israel was the first country in Asia where homosexuals were protected by anti-discrimination laws,[4] and remains the only country in the Middle East to provide such legal protection. Wikipedia

Nigeria pushes ahead with anti-gay bill despite US moves
By Ola Awoniyi (AFP) – Dec 7, 2011
ABUJA — Nigeria's parliament pushed ahead with a bill on Wednesday that would harshly crack down on gay rights despite moves from US President Barack Obama's administration to counter such legislation.
The bill was introduced into Nigeria's House of Representatives on Wednesday after the Senate last week approved the measure that would outlaw gay marriage and ban public displays of affection between homosexual couples.

Gay organisations would also be made illegal, leading some to raise concerns over whether funding channeled through non-governmental organisations in Nigeria for AIDS treatment would be put in jeopardy.
A spokesman for the House of Representatives and a cabinet minister in Africa's most populous nation and largest oil producer were defiant in the face of Western criticism over the measure.
"We have a culture. We have religious beliefs and we have a tradition. We are black people. We are not white," said Zakari Mohammed, who is also a lawmaker.
He said same-sex marriage "is alien to our culture and we can never give it a chance. So if (Western nations) will hold their aid to us, to hell with them."

Information Minister Labaran Maku said "we reserve the right to make our laws without apologies to other countries."
On Tuesday, the United States put the fight against gay and lesbian discrimination at the heart of its foreign policy, but stopped short of warning transgressor nations they could be stripped of US aid.
Obama ordered all government agencies that play an active foreign policy role to take steps to encourage foreign nations to put a premium on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender rights.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has already warned that his country will consider withholding aid from countries that do not recognise gay rights.

The bill passed by the senate would make same-sex marriages punishable by up to 14 years for the couple and 10 for anyone abetting such unions.
It also sets out a 10-year sentence for "any person who ... directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sex amorous relationships".
No debate took place during the introduction of the bill in the House of Representatives on Wednesday and a date has not yet been set for it.
Mohammed vowed lawmakers would proscribe even tougher penalties than those proposed so far. He said "to hell with the super powers if they are for gay marriages."
Maku told reporters after a routine weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday that foreign nations had the right to comment on any Nigerian laws they were unhappy with.
"We live in a democracy, we live in a free country, we live in an independent country," he said, adding "some of the things that are considered fundamental rights abroad ... can be very offensive to African culture."

The house has to vote in favour of the bill before President Goodluck Jonathan ascents to or vetoes the legislation.
Senate President David Mark said last week that if any country was unwilling to "give us aid or assistance just because we want to hold on to our values, that country can keep her aid and assistance."
It was unclear why lawmakers decided a ban was necessary, with gay marriage not known to be prevalent in Nigeria and homosexuals already harshly discriminated again.

Wow, good for the Nigerians. I met one of their prime ministers about 11 years ago in an international meeting in Miami, he and his wife were very nice, I enjoyed having dinner with them and talking about their culture.
I can't remember their names but I remember their faces and the clothes they wore that evening (very intricate stitching), they are wonderful Christians too.

My guess is that the long standing prohibition on homosexuality in Nigeria is being undermined by worldly pc influence. They want to reinforce the standard to be sure it isn't slowly eroded away.

41 of 54 Commonwealth countries have laws (some) in opposition to homosexuality. Many of these countries are slowly relenting.

Proverbs 14:34 ¶ Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Now that takes courage, and I applaud their stand.

Matthew 5:10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

However, a word of caution I thionk is appropriate. While I can wholeheartedly agree that we should support and encourage any moves to resist the implementation of "gay rights" (an oxymoron if ever there was one) in our nation's laws, we must with equal passion resist the temptation to implement anti-gay legislation that could result in persecution against them.

Is that possible? How can we have laws that disarm bigotry? We do have laws in place to prosecute hate-crimes but we cannot prevent those crimes only punish in hopes of detouring such behavior.

Good for them.

I only wish we were the same. Unfortunately we have already fallen. Homosexuality is now fully accepted, and considered normal behavior. It is now allowed in the military and many churches have homosexual pastors and teachers in our schools are the same.

God is the same always, he can and has changed his mind on some things, generally in judgement and in things of time and extension of same in regards to judgement , but never has wavered in his truth and viewpoint of sin. He has delayed punishment to allow salvation. But if they had not turned from sin, the consequences would have been drastic.

So God says homosexual conduct is wrong.

As a Christian I cannot challenge God , nor depart from him. I must simply accept and I do accept.

Jesus says to pray for them, to be gentle to them, and I agree with this. To show by example and to teach and to convince and convict. Hate crimes and violence are more of a sin than the sin the crimes are committed against. Or at least equal to them.

But in the matter of laws for a nation, are we to allow all that we have allowed today?? To sweep it all under the rug so it will go away and we can just ignore it and say it does not exist. That it is OK and the laws or morality of old do not apply today?? Will we not be held accountable for the sin of allowing laws contrary to the will of God.

I am pretty sure God is the same today as he was long ago as far as his laws of morality are concerned. Civil laws and ceremonial laws have changed, but not the laws of morality.

Another thread asks who should we fear, who should a Christian fear? Well I fear God. You can beg and plead and justify and present many arguments to me and I will simply ask, what does God say? That is all I need to know. That is all I am interested in. I am not swayed by the modern times and numerous justifications, but I do live in our society by the rule of our government and our civil laws as God also tells us we must do. But we who have a voice seem to be silent. We seem to have become totally tolerant and convinced by men, that homosexuality is not too bad, and it will all come out in the wash. That new times require tolerance to keep the peace.

If I am wrong I would like to know, but this is how I read Gods word. And God says it is wrong. And those who conduct this activity are in serious trouble. Sure they can repent and obtain salvation, but are we to sit by and just allow laws to change unchallenged, laws that allow and promote this activity? I watch our wishful leaders change their minds, you see they start out with faith and with God in their heart, then the world convinces them that they need to change their mind and they do change. To keep the peace.

Betcha God is not too peaceful when the day comes for him to act.
He will say, you had time for peace and truth but you did not listen.

I Agree.

We can also educate our children/adults to act in a godly manner as per scripture. Of course this education is only received by those who are willing/receptive.

Excellent point, we need to stop relying on "Sunday school" to teach our children about Christ when it is our responsibility as parents.

Thanx jiggyfly. As a good Christian it is absolutely necessary we not only understand what Jesus left for us to continue teaching but we must always heed the Spirit as it continues to develop our understanding of what Jesus taught, both go hand in hand and have to be our our heart.

We have to learn for ourselves what Jesus has for us to learn. Rushing to judgement about others has always been a religious problem since they have these rules in their own doctrine. It can not be an issue for a true Christian, whose doctrine, what was taught by Jesus and passed forward by having the Spirit in heart where he wrote the Laws as Jesus taught them.

We cannot hate gays and other homosexuals, or anyone for any reason, our choices are clear. We can lead them to a better path to the Lord or simply walk away leaving them for the Lord. Neither option is judgemental nor is it scornful or abusive. Only what we do behind their backs hurts us.

Nigeria did good; more need to... we all have to stop chasing after fear and superstition and embrace the freedoms and peace the Lord meant for us to claim.

Good point, Jiggy. Actually, it seems to me that gay activists are having some success in using hate crime laws to advance their cause.

just to chime in..God loves us all and is no respecter of men or women..he does not how ever condone same sex realationships..the ark was filled with two of all animals both MALE AND FEMALE.when we as a nation or world condone Gay activity we are seeting our selves up to fail..sodom and gamorea were destroyed for condoneing the act and not speaking Gods word concerning his distaste for such actions (unholy before a perfect God )as well as such were some of you....but you have been saved set aside and sanctified. and made whole in christ...Thank GOd that while i was yet in sin God found a way to save me from my sin an restore realationship with Him..Should we not do the same to take christ to the nations. not in judgement but in a restorative spirit as it was shown to us as christians..WE ALL HAVE A PAST !!!but in Christ we all HAVE A FUTURE

Soooo....everyone here believes that you can legislate morality? I'm against this. With all the spiritualizing of the Torah being done in modern Christianity, I thought we would stand against this type of thing-not for or with Homosexuals, but against the idea that a condition of the heart can be fixed by legislation.....

legislation can never fix sin in our lives..how ever I know who can and its christ..I was not led to Christ by a congressman or senetor but by the HOLY SPIRIT convicting me of my ways (in a mans heart is a way he thinks is right but its end thereof is death ) its our job to pray and try to live a life that draws men to Christ..not to judge them (thats above my pay grade ) no matter how i feel..my favorite scripture is ...THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I ,,there is none rightious no not one ..in these times all we can do is pray the HOLY SPIRIT lead those in an alternative life style to the truth and that they would respond to its leading and that we would be a tool used of GOD to see that happenn,,,,,,,,,Rev T.S.Perkins

I understand all of this. That's why I have a problem being anyone's 'holy spirit' by legislating sins away.

lawmakers vs God

one thing i seem to have noticed is the 10 commandments are being pulled from sight in our lawmakers hall ways ..they dont understand that you can not make right laws and judgment with out them ...as the days grow closer we will see many examples of this kind of thinking...that laws can change mans nature not God.. and thier trying to pass laws that regulate how much a minister can influance these life changing issuses as well..the only answer i can offer is to pray for Christs swift coming and know hes got this all in hand...

I understand this, but our job is not to
Force anything on anyone. That is not how the change of heart occurs.
