Alcohol and christians

I think each individual needs to pray about it. I know If I want just one drink it will just lead to more..

I like water, apple juice and fizzy drinks (Not coke though). None of them are harmful like Alcohol.

I truly think this statement is a can of worms. Water, juice, and fizzy drinks can be harmful to you.

Water can contain parasites. Most people take clean water for granted. I used to live in a small village where there was no running water, let alone purified water. We had to boil our water before drinking it. The parasites in the water caused diarrhea which lead to dehydration. The dehydration, of course, would lead one to drink more water. I think you can see where this is going.

Apple Juice is generally loaded with tons of sugar. Too much sugar causes all sorts of medical problems. Obesity, diabetes, etc. Fruit juice is also loaded with tons of calories. Take a look at the nutrition facts on the apple juice container next time you buy some. It may surprise you. I know I was super surprised when I realized how bad fruit juice can be for you.

Fizzy drinks are also generally loaded with tons of sugar. Just because it doesn't contain caffeine, does not mean that it doesn't contain sugar.

Juice and fizzy drinks should be drank in moderation. As should, in my opinion, alcohol. Personally, I don't drink. I have a young child and I don't think he should be exposed to the effects of alcohol. However, I don't think it's wrong for one to have a glass of wine (or a drink of their choosing) with dinner.

I think alcohol is ok if it is just one glass of wine with a meal or something,

I stopped drinking 15 months ago, I had already cut down to one drink a week for a year or more then Christmas 2009 I gave up alcohol completely bar a sip of communion wine every Sunday.

That however is just my personal choice and I don't think it is harmful in moderation.

on a practical note, being tee-total does bring with it cheaper insurance premiums :shade:

Should christians drink alcohol if so whats permissible. Ive heard people say the only drink needed is to drink in the spirit of christ. I myself class alcohol as a drug it causes the mind and senses to relax it can be that small letting down of the guard and allow the enemy a window of opportunity. I would like to hear of other peoples opinions.

Alcohol is a drug. It is a depressant. While I don't think it is sinful if you drink one or two drinks from time to time, I don't think it is the best choice for most people.
I tried two drinks when I was 21 and haven't had a drink since then. That was 23 years ago and I don't miss it.

Titus 1:15. Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

I am forced to be with unbelievers all day every day.I could have escaped from them years ago and ran off with believers. But that would have reinforced the false notion that Christians are judgmental and fearful of the things of this world. They are always trying to shock me.They think Christians are all bound up by rules.
They thought I was to self righteous to drink with them. But I shocked them and it gave me an opportunity to convey to them what true freedom in Christ is.I just hope they can remember.

1 Corinthians 9:22. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

I have heard Christians brag that they have never had a drink or had a cigarette smoked in their house.
Pride is a sin that does greater damage than any substance.
If I derive a feeling of purity from some kind of abstinence then it is just a feeling and not the truth.

What about coffee,tea,cigarettes,cannabis,codeine,shellfish,pork and cheeseburgers.

A little is OK...

1Ti 5:23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

A lot isn't a good thing...

Eph 5:18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,

1Cor 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one.

Yes Jesus changed the water into wine, but it doesn't say he drank any of it.

1Thes 5:7 For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night.

Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.

Never be drunk in Church!

1Cor 11:21 for in your eating each one takes his own supper first; and one is hungry and another is drunk.
1Cor 11:22 What! Do you not have houses in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and shame those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you? In this I will not praise you.

Leviticus 10:9

Numbers 6:3

Deuteronomy 29:6 Judges 13:4

Judges 13:7

Luke 1:15

When one drink wine it cloud their judgement and the holy spirit that lives within them. It did not say that he drink the wine from the wedding. If the bible says not to drink wine and in those times wine wasn't as potent as wine today. Wine in those days could have been grape juice.
